Stump Removal & Land Clearing Mount Pleasant, SC

tree_removal_introduction

Almost every stump or clearing call we get in Mount Pleasant falls into one of three projects, and they’re different enough that it’s worth knowing which one you’re actually dealing with before you call around for quotes.

Hernandez Trees & Lawn Care handles all three: leftover stumps, yard-scale clearing, and full lot prep for new construction, with the same crew and equipment across the Town.

Project One: The Leftover Stump

This is the most common call. A tree came down, maybe we removed it, maybe a storm did, and now there’s a stump in the middle of the lawn. Mechanical grinding takes it down 4 to 12 inches below grade, which is enough to sod or plant over. If the plan for that spot involves something that needs the roots gone too, a garden bed, a foundation, a driveway extension, full extraction is the better call instead of grinding. We’ll tell you which one your project actually needs.

Project Two: Yard-Scale Clearing

Overgrown brush, a few small trees along a fence line, vegetation that’s taken over a side yard, this is smaller in scope than a construction clearing but bigger than a single stump. It comes up a lot ahead of landscaping projects or when a property’s changed hands and the new owner wants a clean slate. If any of the trees involved clear Mount Pleasant’s 16-inch DBH protection threshold (24 inches for pines), the same OPAL permit rules that apply to standalone removal apply here too, so we check for that before anything comes down.

Project Three: Lot Clearing for New Construction

Mount Pleasant is still building fast, and builders and homeowners in newer sections need lots cleared efficiently to stay on schedule. This is the largest-scope version: multiple trees, stumps, brush, and grading prep, sometimes across a full acre or more. Protected-tree identification matters even more here, since a permit issue discovered mid-clearing can stall a construction timeline in a way a homeowner project usually can’t afford. We identify anything protected and file the OPAL request before equipment shows up.

Tree Removal Services for Daniel Island

What’s Actually Involved

Stump grinding, below-grade mechanical grinding for lawn restoration or replanting

Complete stump removal, full extraction including major roots

Brush and vegetation clearing for yard-scale projects

Full lot clearing for construction and development

Protected tree identification and OPAL permit filing, built into the estimate for any project with qualifying trees

Root removal where roots interfere with hardscaping or foundations

If your project is really about shaping or cutting back existing trees rather than removing them or clearing a site, that’s pruning or trimming territory instead, worth a look if you’re not sure which category fits.

How Pricing Actually Works

Single stumps are usually priced per stump and take under an hour to grind. Yard clearing is scoped by the amount of material and access. Lot clearing is priced by acreage, tree count, and whether protected-tree permitting is involved. We give you a written estimate that separates these out so you’re not guessing at what you’re paying for.

Hernandez Trees & Lawn Care gave exceptional service from quote to payment with receipt. Mr. Hernandez promptly answered my call, asked me for minimal information, and had a quote to me in the same day. His quote was more than reasonable - honestly, he could be charging more. Once we let him know we wanted to move forward with his company, a contract was sent within minutes and our tree removal was scheduled within two weeks. The team showed up on time - actually a little ahead of time, but waited to start work until the scheduled time of 7:30 a.m. The gentleman worked quickly, efficiently, and I have no idea how, but removed a massive gum tree and ground the stump without so much a bruising a single flower or plant that was under that tree. I fully expected and was prepared for some casualties given the number of plantings at the removal site. I am still amazed at how it was done. I would heartily recommend Hernandez Trees& Lawn Care to anyone - to EVERYONE. I could not be more pleased. A HUGE thank you to the professionals there!

Hernandez Tree service did an awesome job. They were professional and very hard working. The area where the tree was located was left extremely clean and they even arranged the flower bed back to the way it was. I could not have asked for a better job. We had some concrete poured the day before and they did not let anything touch it. I highly recommend them!

Frequently Asked Questions

Grinding or full removal, which do I need?

If you’re planting grass or general landscaping over the spot, grinding. If you’re putting a structure, foundation, or hardscaping there, full removal. We’ll confirm on-site.

Do I need a permit to clear land with trees on it?

If any tree on the lot is 16 inches DBH or greater (24 inches for pines), yes, the same OPAL process and $50 fee that applies to standalone removal applies here. We check every lot before clearing.

How long does a lot clearing project take?

Depends heavily on acreage and tree count. Single-stump jobs are same-day; full lot clearing gets a timeline as part of the estimate.

Can you work around existing landscaping?

Yes, we discuss ground protection for sensitive areas as part of the walkthrough.

What happens to the wood chips and debris?

Hauled away as part of the job. Chips available on request.

Do builders and developers work with you directly?

Regularly. We coordinate with contractors on Mount Pleasant construction timelines.

Can grass go down right after grinding?

Usually yes, once the ground stump is filled with soil or chips, most lots are ready for sod shortly after.
